The emphasis in this squad is to develop a 'first stroke' although work continues on all strokes and their relevant starts and turns.
Swimmers are expected to train for a minimum of 5.5 hours per week. Swimmers unable to keep up this level of committment will be demoted to the intermediate squad 2. There are eight available training sessions, including early mornings.
Swimmers transfer into this squad usually in the year they turn 11 and are expected to attend four training sessions per week.
The training becomes more intense, with swimmers working towards competitions aimed at their ability from 'traded' or B-competitions through to competing at National Age Group level, and also Club galas.

The main aim for the swimmers is that they enjoy their swimming and that they reach their full potential within the group.
